when I install Windows 10 on my Dell x-13 9343 laptop, I need to format my hard drive into NTFS format. so I googled and find a post using Dban too. I decided to give this tool a try. the comments are good to it.

I downloaded DBAN tool and used YUMI to make it bootable. then wipe and format my hard drive. in YUMI process, I select FAT32 format(not NTFS). then insert my Windows 10 USB. in one step, I used new command/option to create partitions. major partition size is made 100G. the Windows program automatically create other recovery partition, and one more partition. then Windows 10 installation goes through.

download most recent version. when the app starts, selection "Migrate OS" to run.

on Vista machine, everything goes well. i has trend micro security installed.

on Zenith, production machine, Trend Micro detected a program ms1.exe and blocked it. so migration process did go through well. I unblocked temporarily. then migration to hard drive succeeded. but I need to remove partition wizard from my machine because it is no use anymore.

on my T1700 Dell machine, I have Kaspersky installed. migration/imaging failed in the middle in the reboot stage. it always says hard rive configurations changed. So I think it can be the same issue as on production/Zenith machine. Kaspersky can not be disabled. So I remove it from my machine temporarily.

1. INSTALLING SYSTEMRESCUECD ON A USB STICK

If you are running Windows on your computer the recommended installation program is rufus as it is easy to use and supports both UEFI and Legacy-BIOS booting methods.

• Download SystemRescueCd-6.0.1 (or more recent) from the download page
• Download rufus and install it on Windows. current version is 3.5
• Plug in your USB-stick and wait a few seconds to allow enough time for the system to detect it
• Execute Rufus and select the USB stick in the drop-down list
• Select the SystemRescueCd ISO image that you have downloaded
• Select ‘MBR’ partition scheme as it will be compatible with both BIOS and UEFI
• Select ‘BIOS or UEFI’ in target to get the best compatibility
• Check the ‘volume label’ is correct as it must be set to SYSRCDXYZ (cf below)
• Select FAT32 filesystem as the UEFI boot process only works from FAT filesystems
• Click on the start button and wait until the operation is complete
In the previous steps SYSRCDXYZ refers to the version number, eg: SYSRCD601 for SystemRescueCd-6.0.1. Rufus should automatically use the label which was set on the ISO filesystem and hence it should set this label automatically on the USB device. You should not have to change it but you should make sure the label is correct as this is required for the device to start properly. What matters is that the label matches the value passed to the archisolabel boot option in the boot loader configuration files on the device (grubsrcd.cfg and sysresccd_sys.cfg) so files can be found at the time the system starts from the USB device.

6. use the new CloeZilla tutorial. enter expert mode, use default setting if no idea.
7. everything looks good.
